RSV1000 New To Norway

Legg innav adrtree » 23 feb 2011, 19:29

Hey guys I have recently moved to Norway. I'm an American from the South and married to a Norwegian woman. I have only been here 2 months and I do not speak Norsk yet. I am trying to learn. I wanted to say hi anyway though. I have a 2008 RSV1000 currently. Its for sale on fin and I want to buy an RSV4. I have about 20 years experience riding with sportbikes and I'd like to meet people to go riding when the weather improves. I live near Arendal. And I can't seem to figure how to upload pictures to this forum!! :x
Thanks,
Allen 3708-8776

Hi and welcome! VERY nice bike you got there, and if you're thinking about a RSV4, I'd say GO for it! A dream of myself :g
By the way, I think you'll be very shocked when you see the norwegian prices and taxes!

Hey guys. Thanks. Again sorry about the language problem. You'll have to be patient with me on it. Yes that is the bike on Finn. It was brought from America.
I can sell it much much cheaper if someone wanted it as just a race bike because then the one time tax would not have to be paid. I have already paid VAT but not registration tax yet. The price on finn includes registration tax and it is negotiable.
Before registration I can sell it for almost half that price. The taxes here are very high. I brought a Cobra and a Jeep here at the same time.
I have a go pro camera. Maybe one of you guys might want to race the cobra on video when the weather is better? I'm sure you know some good roads. I would like to see the 125's and 250's in the turns. In America we race blood mountain regularly and the fastest bike in our group is always a Suzuki SV650.
If the RSV does not sell then I will just stick with it and ride this season.

Hehe, dont worry about the language! we'll gladly write english!
We got a house in Southern Norway, where we stay in the summer. Good times! Anyways, its only one hour away from arendal (maybe 40 mins with me driving :s) ) and there is a lot of beautiful roads there! Im going to Arendal this summer too, because of the Hove Festival!

I'll bring my RS 125 for sure! :g

By the way, do you need to take a Norwegian Heavy motorbike lisence too, or can you drive here on your american one?

I have an American MC license so they say they will trade for a Norwegian MC license with no classes or tests. I have had my high cc MC license in America for 21 years #-o Shows how old I am lol. I can drive on my American License for one year as long as I do not register as resident. Let me know whenever you come down this way. I am bored alot and I will go riding anytime with any of you guys( except for in this weather) Save my number its 3708-8776.

I also got the Go Pro camera, amazing camera! I'll post some of my videos if you want. :)
Do you got any videos of you driving in America? :D

Yeah, I would gladly race or at least drive with the Cobra! Arendal isn't too far away from where I live. Just installed a new Öhlins rearshock on my RS125. So I think the corners will be pretty smooth. :)

Heres the Car http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i38 ... cobra3.jpg
Its basically a race car.
351 Cleveland With Edelbrock Aluminum Heads. Offy Intake. Demon and Quick Fuel Carbs. MSD Ignition. Roller Rockers, Cam etc. 10.5 to 1 60 psi motor with EEI Oil Injected Valve Covers, Sweet Rack Close Ratio Power Steering, Adjustable AFco Suspension and brakes. etc. It weighs just over 1 ton at somewhere between 425-525hp depending on the tuning.
It is very quick in the turns. It would be close with a bike. http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i38 ... cobra1.jpg

Woooow! That's a beautiful car! 425-525hp at 1 ton, that must really give you a kick! I really don't think that amateurs like us here on the forum could keep up with a car like that! Maybe the bigger guys with RS250s, but not us with the small RS125s. :p

I think you underestimate your ability. In the turns the 125's and 250's can be just as fast as 1000's. Some faster. Depends on who is riding it. I can drive the car on US plates for 1 year. I was already stopped by the police in the Jeep with US plates. After 1 year they must be registered with Norway plates but are legal to drive for now.

You guys are welcome to come by and check out the Cobra or the Aprilia whenever. I do not work so I am at home bored most days while my wife and kids are school and work. Soon I may end up talking to the trees from boredom. Mainly I have been working on the car and the Jeep during the day. I live outside Arendal in Rykene. Like I said if any of you live nearby give me a call.

I've been trying to study Norsk. I have a dvd to teach me. My memory does not seem to work as well as it used to #-o . Your language is much different not only in words but almost in way of thinking. I've only been trying for 1 month so I think it may take a good while longer. I'm about to take this class that is 500 hours My wife and step kids are Norwegian so I am the only one in the house speaking english.

Oh, I see. Hahaha! In our house my parents speak English. My father, my brother, my sister and me speak Norwegian. My brother, my sister and me speak Thai to my mom. So three different languages in our house.

But I think it helps you pretty much when your wife and your children speak Norwegian. Because then you will learn pretty much from them, and try speaking with them. Also the way you pronounce the English words or letters are totally different from Norwegian.

Hopefully you will speak Norwegian pretty well in 1 year, good luck learning the Norwegian language! :D

I bought the camera not too long before I came to Norway. I haven't used it in the Cobra yet. I would like to video the cobra from a bike and a bike in front of the cobra when the weather gets better. If one of you would like to volunteer to do it one day. Heres a video of one of the younger guys in the group I ride with wiping out on blood mountain. He was on his girlfriends bike in this video #-o . He's the one who bought my orange bike. Not a bad rider. If you type in blood mountain you will find alot of videos from there. Fun road. Someone wrecks almost every weekend in our group though. Not me.
The group there was sportbike riders of georgia on meetup.com.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwEYGmv1yHg

You guys should do a meetup.com group here. Its a nice format to find and schedule rides or events. Very popular back home.
I would set one up but the language is a problem.
I just realized how young some of you guys are!!! I have a step daughter here at the house you guys age.

haha, his girlfriend must be pissed when he got back home! poor guy.
I'd love to ride in front of your cobra while you film it and race it some too, this summer! Would be awesome to show it for my friend later aswell.
As thomasi just said, we got some olders to, i know Inunf in here got a rsv mille, and some other guy with a sxv 550.
I had a highsider myself not long ago, fixing up the bike now for the season though. Im gonna spoil it a little bit extra too :s)
Heres is the damage, but you can not see the gear rod and gear pedal, but they got bendt into eachother so i have to fix that aswell. Had to ride it with a loose fairing hanging out, no turning signal and a broken clutch, in 1st gear all the way home #-o

Yeah the guy in the video, Chris, wrecked 5 or 6 times in the 2010 season on rides with us. Never got hurt. He's a very good rider for his age though. He's been riding only a few years. If you watch that video closely you will see his back tire went in a small hole in the road as he was down on his knee. If you push it hard enough on twisties people will wreck. Thats why I prefer to either be in 1st or second or in the very back of large groups. :g . Are you guys dragging knees when you ride or do you stay off the pavement?? Any of you do track days somewhere???

Im not really much experienced riding hardcore speeds with knee dragging and that crazy shit :D

But i would love to join a trip, no doubt :D

I have a friend who used to go to a track up north in Norway every year to the "ACR" track. Artic Circle Raceway :) They said when they buildt the track that it was suppost to be the best track in Skandinavia and was going to weigh up to nurburgering track. Not 100% sure how to write that but... You get the point :)

Think the price was 1000kr (nok) a day, with 4000kr for 4days :g

Like I said meetup.com is how everyone does motorcycle group rides back home. That way you can organize rides and people can sign up for each ride and other events. It works really good for hobby groups. It automatically sets everything up for you. No web design or anything like that involved. You can upload pictures from each ride etc. and it has a forum space also. I'll set it up and pay for it if one of you can be the group leader/organizer. I think it charges like $12 Us a month for the service. Look up some in America and you will see how it works. I promise its the best way to go for motorcycle or other hobby groups. I notice theres only 2 meetup groups here within 100 miles of Arendal. Just hasn't caught on here yet. Heres one of them i was on before. http://www.meetup.com/Northwest-Georgia ... ke-Riders/

Well, here at the forum we are planning a meeting at Geilo, for all the members (pretty far away though), this summer.
